Dr. Edmund Monsef, a second-generation Endodontist, grew up immersed in his father's San Diego practice, a pillar in our dental community for decades. With a background in neurophysiology from UCSD, his path naturally led him to specialize in Endodontics. After earning his DMD degree from the Arizona School of Dentistry & Oral Health, Dr. Monsef advanced his clinical training through the Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at UCLA, reinforcing his passion for academics and clinical excellence. He served as clinical faculty, interim director of the AEGD Clinic, and practiced general dentistry in Beverly Hills, receiving numerous awards, including fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
During these successful years, Dr. Monsef realized his true calling lay in preserving natural dentition. He returned to UCLA for specialty training in Endodontics, where he continues to foster academic curiosity and promote professional excellence as clinical faculty and a published researcher. He is board-eligible and preparing for induction as a Diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics. A member of the American Dental Society and American Association of Endodontics, Dr. Monsef specializes in microsurgical endodontics, ensuring precision and care in every procedure.
Dr. Monsef's practice philosophy focuses on treating the patient as a whole. Early in his career, he learned from the esteemed Dean of his dental school that a tooth is part of a mouth, which is connected to a person, their family, and their community. This underscores how oral health influences overall well-being. He advocates for a holistic approach to patient care, crafting individualized treatment plans that best suit each patient. He often considers, "What would I do if this were myself or my parent?" Everyone receives care with the same level of dedication and without compromise. He strives to deliver optimal care efficiently and comfortably, making every effort to ensure the highest standards are met. Dr. Monsef appreciates the human connection made during the patient's healing journey. He respects the trust patients place in him, understanding the anxiety that comes with microsurgery. Guiding patients, delivering excellent care, and seeing their smiles brings him great joy. Seeing the reconstitution of health never gets old.
Native to Southern California, Dr. Monsef enjoys all things outdoors including surfing, snowboarding, and backpacking through the backcountry of the Sierra Nevadas. Connecting with nature keeps him grounded and humble. As an accomplished musician since childhood, he loves creating and discovering new music. As a foodie, he enjoys exploring new restaurants and honing his culinary and mixology skills. Above all, he loves spending time with family and friends and creating new memories.
