Sleep Disordered Breathing, or SDB
In addition to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), there are numerous other, similar sleep disorders that involve abnormalities in your breathing patterns while you sleep, including snoring and upper airway resistance syndrome. What all of these conditions have in common is that they are all considered “sleep disordered breathing,” or SDB, and can have serious consequences for your systemic health if left untreated. Because it encompasses a wide variety of respiratory conditions, sleep disordered breathing affects children as much as adults. At our office, we’re especially skilled at helping patients of all ages address their sleep disorders so they can enjoy the restful, peaceful sleep they need and deserve. Typically, treatment includes a comfortable, custom-designed sleep appliance that helps ensure a clear and open airway while you sleep, preventing the airway obstructions that lead to SDB. However, exact treatment will depend on the nature and severity of your sleep disordered breathing.
